On extension of scalar valued positive definite functions on ordered groups
نویسنده
چکیده
We prove that every scalar valued positive definite function f , on a generalized interval of an ordered group, has a positive definite extension to the whole group. We also prove that if f is continuous (measurable), then every positive definite extension of f is continuous (measurable). Additionally we obtain a representation result for the measurable case.

Decomposition of H*-Algebra Valued Negative Definite Functions on Topological *-Semigroups
In the present paper, among other results, a decomposition formula is given for the w-bounded continuous negative definite functions of a topological *-semigroup S with a weight function w into a proper H*-algebra A in terms of w-bounded continuous positive definite A-valued functions on S. A generalization of a well-known result of K. Harzallah is obtained. An earlier conjecture of the author ...
متن کاملGENERALIZED POSITIVE DEFINITE FUNCTIONS AND COMPLETELY MONOTONE FUNCTIONS ON FOUNDATION SEMIGROUPS
A general notion of completely monotone functionals on an ordered Banach algebra B into a proper H*-algebra A with an integral representation for such functionals is given. As an application of this result we have obtained a characterization for the generalized completely continuous monotone functions on weighted foundation semigroups. A generalized version of Bochner’s theorem on foundation se...
متن کاملExtensions of Positive Definite Functions on Amenable Groups
Let S be a subset of a amenable group G such that e ∈ S and S = S. The main result of the paper states that if the Cayley graph of G with respect to S has a certain combinatorial property, then every positive definite operator-valued function on S can be extended to a positive definite function on G. Several known extension results are obtained as a corollary. New applications are also presented.
متن کاملFunction Spaces – and How They Relate
We’re not interested in a function here or a function there. We’re interested in the collection of all functions to R or to C. Why are we interested in these? Functions describe lots of things. For example, a function on a “physical body” could be used to describe the temperature at every point on the body. Functions to R or C are scalar-valued: they have their image in a field. We are often in...
متن کاملOn Matrix Valued Square Integrable Positive Definite Functions
In this paper, we study matrix valued positive definite functions on a unimodular group. We generalize two important results of Godement on L positive definite functions to matrix valued L positive definite functions. We show that a matrix-valued continuous L positive definite function can always be written as a convolution of a L positive definite function with itself. We also prove that, give...
